DIY Display Ideas

Having kids means acquiring hand-drawn pictures, cards, photos, certificates, medals and trophies. These mementos can quickly add up. Instead of wallpapering your fridge with these, we have some great ideas to display them.

Purchase some quality floating glass picture frames and arrange them on a lonely wall in the house for a rotating gallery. You could also take out the glass in the frames and glue cork boards inside. Use tape or a pin to hang up the art, pictures or certificates. Decide with the kids what they want to display. Keep the pictures in for a month and then update.

For trophies and medals, purchase an inexpensive wood shelf and insert tea cup hooks underneath. Put trophies on the top and medals on the hooks. Another option is to hang larger hooks in a in a pattern on the wall and then add the medals.

Did your child win a championship or do very well in an event? Gather the ribbon, medal, pictures, program or any other memorabilia associated with the experience and pick up a shadow box at a craft store. Have fun creating a memory box that you hang on the wall. If you like a more custom piece, check out what professionals can do in our Sports Moms Video.

For long term storage, purchase a medium size plastic bin with a handle for each of your children. Keep it handy to put in the papers, pictures and awards, etc. that you want to store. I can usually fit 2 years worth of keepsakes in these containers. As the years go by, you may want to whittle the collection down a bit to make it more manageable.
